amongst the hustle and bustle of events and activities prior to the start of neocon, the contract inspirations awards always finds a permanent spot on my agenda…

The Inspirations Awards recognize a commitment to social responsibility in commercial interior architecture and design: implementing design to improve the quality of life for those in need. Winners are recognized for work completed for clients that are a worthy cause. The clients, in turn, receive a generous grant from award sponsor Tarkett.

The 2017 winners of the Inspirations Awards had a profound impact on what I would like to emphasize on and focus towards in my career as a professional interior designer.

In particular, it was the Planned Parenthood of New York City project in Queens by Stephen Yablon Architects and Lakeview Pantry project in Chicago by Wheeler Kearns Architects that I felt embodied the true meaning of dignified design.

After expressing such profound admiration for these projects and the competition, I was truly honored and humbled to be asked by Contract Magazine to participate as a juror for the 2018 Inspirations Awards!

The competition jurors (myself, Alisa Wehmueller - Principal at Helix Architecture, and Melissa Price, CEO at dPOP) were honored to recognize three outstanding projects as the winners:

  • GRAND PRIZE $10,000 GRANT

    • The Honor Foundation (San Diego, CA) designed by Gensler

  • WINNER $3,000 GRANT

    • The Open School (Portland, OR) designed by Holst Architecture

  • WINNER $2,000 GRANT

    • FareStart (Seattle, WA) designed by IA Interior Architects
